thoughts from an incline

My car just broke down. On Broad between 1st and Western.

I feel:

ridiculous because the first thing I was going to do when I got home was figure out where to get the insides detailed and perhaps I should have been worrying about the guts a little bit more.

guilty because I was on my way to pick up Buttercup so she didn't have to bike a crazy distance after a rough day.

  • A friendly cop is waiting behind me while the tow truck gets here
  • I have car insurance
  • It's not rush hour
  • I have a job/boss that allows me to be flexible like this
  • I work close to home and thus my home garage
  • I can work from home after all this
  • I can probably afford to fix whatever's wrong with my car and not be eating ramen

Be thankful for what you've got.

apparently one of the 'reverbations' of the Doush's release is wikivandalism

Oh come on, ESPN, that's three dropped letters. 'Reverbations' isn't even close to a word.

As you can see, the Newsvine team's least favorite Seahawk won't be one much longer, and so I can stop whiteknighting him and his awesome CRIBS appearance now.

Also, somebody with a vendetta against English, Sal Paolantonio, and Lendale White got into Housh's wiki:

on people who snap being used for political purposes

Y'all might have noticed James Jay Lee's Last Stand yesterday. He was a big fan of The Inconvenient Truth and Ishmael before he was a big fan of taking hostages and demanding Discovery start promoting sterilization.

Some people have started pointing fingers at Al Gore. This is dumb. [To be clear: I do not like Al Gore. If I had to pick the face of a movement, he would be well below Brian Bosworth on my list.]

But still:

[On the US school shootings] Everybody is wanting to know what music were the kids listening to, or what movies were they watching. Who gives a fuck what they was watching! Whatever happened to crazy? What, you can't be crazy no more? Should we eliminate crazy from the dictionary?

That classic bit from Chris Rock's 'Bigger and Blacker' encapsulates how I feel about most 'community shootings'.

sfs: wear clean draws for bianca and my future daughter

It's presumptuous to think I'll have a kid. [I'm terrified of pregnancy.] But I couldn't think of a better way to put it in the headline.

Whatever you think of The Coup's occasionally uneven discography, it's hard to deny that Boots can write and Pam can lay tracks. When they're both on point it's magical. I think I was still in middle school when I heard 'Fat Cats, Bigga Fish' at a friend's place [with the Baloo sample!] and lost my mind. This is my favorite, though:

The Coup - Wear Clean Draws

Bianca's a NYC girl, as she'll gladly tell you. She's funny as hell but will step to you in a second, and she did a really good job of bridging the gap between real talk and academic speech in school. I have girl friends that I think of as older sisters and twins, but few younger sisters. Bianca's one of them. I'm really proud of her.
